Am I a Good Candidate for Liposuction?
Liposuction is one of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures performed in America every year. Men and women who have worked hard to keep their bodies in shape can become discouraged by localized fat deposits in their thighs, arms, abdomen, or neck. These fat pockets often resist the effects of the best diet and exercise routines.
A good liposuction candidate is already physically fit and no more than 20 pounds overweight. Contrary to popular belief, liposuction is not an alternative to weight loss. It is designed to sculpt the body, not to dramatically change your weight. In fact, removing too much fat increases your chance of complications, and is not recommended.
Good liposuction candidates also:
- Are not planning to lose or gain a significant amount of weight (i.e. during pregnancy)
- Have firm, elastic skin
- Are in strong metabolic health
If you suffer from a serious medical condition like lung disease, heart disease, or diabetes, you may be more vulnerable to liposuction side effects. Good health is an essential prerequisite for liposuction. The healthier you are, the better your results will be.
